The Kintai Bridge firework festival surpassed every preconceived idea I had of what it may be. Most of the time, since everything is literally brand new to us, I have lower expectations that always seem to be blown out of the water by reality. The Japanese really know how to live the good life!
We took a taxi as far as we could, but then ended up walking through the alleyways and narrow neighborhood streets to get to the festivities due to road closures. We walked through traditional housing where friends and families were cooking out back, awaiting the firework show. Many of the houses still have the traditional dark, tiled roofs with ornate designs and details on the corners. Often times these traditional features will be mixed with the technology of today, like solar panels!

Once we got closer, a sea of thousands of people appeared seemingly out of no where. Many of the women and children were wearing traditional kimonos!

See all those tents? Those are all food and drink vendors... so we made a B-line straight down there! We ate some chicken kabobs, grilled corn, amazing street noodles and had some slushee ice for dessert!

Once it started getting dark, we walked along the shore of the river towards the bridge to get a better view of the fireworks. The fireworks were so much more creative than any in America! There were river boats with lanterns anchored in the river and thousands of people lining the surrounding areas to watch the show. The evening was one of the best festivals I had ever seen!
